Salla (2022)

Digging into the details of Salla town, I focused on themes like solitude, separation, and identity. I come from Lithuania, a country that was once part of the Soviet Union. We're actively working to establish our own identity, striving to break free from ties to russia. However, despite years of independence, we still often find our country being compared to russian culture and language. 

Upon arriving in Salla, I immediately sensed a striking resemblance between this region and my home country. It's a town in Finland, situated on the border, experiencing the echoes of past conflicts with russia. Despite attaining independence, it still bears visible footprints from its neighbouring country.

I'm working on a photo series that carefully documents this shared journey.
